You create a home that holds your child.
It can hold you, too.

About me

I’m Lizeth Villanueva, founder of Lumen & Leaf and creator of the Prepared Home Method™.

For 15 years, my work has centered on young children and families across Montessori infant-toddler education/ high quality childcare, and infant and early childhood mental health. Montessori taught me how profoundly the environment shapes what children can do and experience, while my clinical work deepened my understanding of relationships, emotional safety, and caregiver capacity.

I also understand the household from within motherhood. In 2013, I stepped away from college to care for my son. When I returned to Arizona State University at 33 while raising two children, I learned that becoming responsible for my children’s development did not end my own need for growth, purpose, and support.

Together, these experiences revealed a missing link: parents are entrusted with enormous responsibility for their children’s earliest development, yet support often focuses on what they should provide for the child without considering what sustains parents and the household as a whole.

That insight became Lumen & Leaf, a Developmental Household Systems Design practice that considers how the home, routines, adult roles, relationships, and a young child’s developmental needs work together.

My Prepared Home Method is integrated, individualized support for carrying that responsibility within the realities of family lifestyle. My goal is to help families create homes that nurture early development while making everyday life more sustainable for the adults who love and care for them.

What Is Lumen & Leaf?

Developmental Household Systems Design

Lumen & Leaf is a developmental consulting practice helping families prepare their households for the early years of childhood.

A household is more than a physical space. It is an interconnected system of:

Spaces

The physical environment that supports movement, exploration, care, and participation.

Routines

The sequences and structures that organize daily life.

Roles

The ways adults share responsibility and support the child.

Relationships

The connections that help children feel secure, understood, and valued.

Developmental needs

The experiences children need as they grow.

Cultivate the relationships, values, and belonging that become their legacy.

Every family carries a story — values, traditions, relationships, and hopes for the future.

A child’s first experience of that story begins at home.

Before adolescents can carry responsibility, they first need experiences of belonging, trust, participation, and being known. This begins in the first three years of life.

Lumen & Leaf families create the conditions where those experiences can naturally unfold.
